Opera in the Ozarks

Greetings from Arkansas!! I'm sorry if my posts are few over the next 6 weeks. Due to the prehistoric quality of these precious machines, it takes obscene amounts of time to access the blog. On Saturday, it took an hour and a half just to purchase a plane ticket and write 1 email!! I feel like I've been transported into the Dark Ages.

Life in Arkansas:

Living Conditions: dormitory in the woods, no doors, no full length walls, concrete floors, insect ridden, opera singers warming up in the shower . . . at 8:00 in the morning

Working Conditions: 6 hour rehearsals in a rustic basement for the first two days, released from one of the shows = no more than 3 hours a day from here on out!, moody conductor, pretentious stand partner, sweaty practice hours in wooden cabins, GREAT music!!

People: they rock!!

Places to visit: the 1st Wal-Mart . . . EVER!!, the Wal-Mart mansion, Eureka Springs wedding chapels and motels ("Jacuzzis for 2"), the "Big Dipper" ice cream parlor, BEAVER DAM LAKE!!

Food: comes in one variety: fried (it's the south)

Climate: hot, humid, blankets of green, heat lightening shows, charming fire flies

Free time: LOTS of it!!!, reading, swimming, running, napping, practicing, umm . . . life is good.
