Philip Glass

I saw and heard Philip Glass play a knee play from Einstein On the Beach!!! He is 70 years old today. He gave a lecture and performance at University of Houston. It was an amazing experience to hear and watch the making of music history -- truly inspirational. He talked a lot about audience collaboration and has been one of the leaders in the movement towards elevating the audience to the status of creator and artist in cooperation with the composer. One tidbit from the lecture: He said, speaking of his mixed media projects, "Images are surprisingly neutral. Music, however doesn't change." Take The Hours, for instance. Without Philip Glass's (?) music would the images be nearly as powerful and profound? The image of a woman laughing can be changed in an instant by a soundtrack.
