No songs

I flipped through the radio stations, while driving home tonight, searching for a song that might express what I was feeling. I was sorely disappointed by the lack of appropriate lyrics, so I've decided to jot down a few of my own:

"Cherished friends for life,"
your hopeful lie fell softly from your lips:
A prolonged painful pretense
while from your porous memory I slip.

Love another, give yourself,
you've done it once before.
Must this choice transform our friendship
into nothing more than chore?

Though my heart is timid, and my mind unsure,
my arms with love extend.
There they are eternally fixed,
awaiting your return; forever my friend.
